PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking a Prototype Assembler Sr, in Chatsworth, CA.
Under the general direction of the department supervisor or cognizant Development /Product Engineer develops and applies the methods and techniques required to complete precision electromechanical assemblies, prepares assembly instructions, observes and investigates new product assembly problems affecting assembly completion as well as functional performance, technically directs the assembly activities of supporting prototype assemblers and directs and trains production assembly personnel during product transfer.
Essential job functions: NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The incumbent's primary function is to develop and apply the methods, techniques and assembly tooling required to complete precision electromechanical control assemblies.
To properly perform this function the incumbent must be completely familiar with and execute the buildup of close tolerance mechanical assemblies and the fabrication and installation of electrical assemblies.
Mechanical assembly requirements include the buildup of fixed position interchangeable components, precise mechanical positioning of adjustable position mechanical components, measurement and selection of non-interchangeable matched assembly components and measurement and machining of nominal components as required to achieve highly precise matched non-interchangeable assemblies.
Electrical assembly requirements include the fabrication of cables and harnesses requiring crimping, soldering, heat shrink operations and potting.
To complete the above tasks the incumbent must have a working knowledge of related mechanical inspection equipment typically including micrometers and height gages.
His/Her knowledge of electrical equipment should include the use of multimeters and dielectric testers.
The Sr. Assembler's workload will normally include new products or derivations of existing products for which assembly instructions and tooling must be developed.
In completing his/her assignments the incumbent will work with engineering drawings, sketches and verbal instructions from the department supervisor or cognizant engineer.
As a part of his/her duties, he/she will continually monitor the assembly process for potential build or performance affecting assembly problems.
He/She will investigate identified problems and provide clear feedback to the cognizant engineer as to the nature of these problems and possible corrective action.
As an integral part of the above functions the Sr. Assembler prepares assembly instructions on new products.
The instructions assure assembly consistency in the buildup of follow on units and are used as an instructional guide during the subsequent training of production assemblers.
The incumbents training and experience should meet the following:
Four years as a prototype assembler.
Ability to work directly from engineering drawings and sketches.
Interpersonal skills required to deal with persons of several levels within the company as well as customer representatives.
- High school graduate or equivalency.
