General Overview :

The Engineering Manager position is a key technical leadership role with our client. The Engineering Manager provides leadership to a team of engineering personnel that: Advances product innovation by integrating new technologies through combining imagination, creativity, and engineering expertise and formulates solutions for new products and evolves existing products to provide valuable solutions to both our external and internal customers. In addition, the Engineering Manager provides technical experience to drive resolution of issues that arise on existing production released products.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain and develop engineering staff. Provide active involvement in engineering staff member performance reviews: establishing annual performance objectives in alignment with company business initiatives, as well as facilitating personnel development for necessary technical competencies and active involvement in their development plans for career growth.

  2. Provide guidance and leadership for engineering input into new business proposals in accordance with our company Bid and Proposal process. Ensure we have clear understanding of the customer requirements and provide guidance to assure our technical approach properly responds to these requirements and is documented appropriately.

  3. Provide direction for engineering group resource allocation to support factory operations and growth programs (research and new product development efforts).

  4. Drives process discipline, creativity and strong cross-functional collaboration for successful completion of New Product Development (NPD) programs.

  5. Drives process discipline, creativity and strong cross-functional collaboration to assist in resolving issues with current production programs thru active participation on production team reviews, failure analysis and technical meetings. In addition, participate in design-related tasks in support of cost reduction projects related to existing released production products (VA projects)

  6. Coaches behaviors and actions that promote the company’s continuous improvement culture. Utilizes continuous improvement tools and provides visible leadership and support of our continuous improvement culture.

  7. Ensure engineering team understands and follows engineering best practices, department/company procedures and processes.

  8. Proactively support establishment of KPI’s for the engineering team that align with company level annual targets, associated business initiatives and identified improvement initiatives. Build strong cadence with our operations through effective use of Daily Management and associated metrics.

  9. Ensure personnel are kept informed of conditions, trends, and important activities affecting engineering staff members.

  10. Foster good working relationships within the engineering group, across other functional disciplines and with our external customers.


  • BS in Engineering, MS in Engineering or MBA a plus

  • 5+ years technical management experience or commensurate leadership experience

  • Possess sound engineering and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills promoting effective interaction with customers, engineering staff, peers and senior leadership.

  • Extensive experience in analytical methods and design engineering fundamentals.

  • Extensive experience with engineering drawings, GD&T, problem solving and associated business tools.

  • Strong working knowledge of DOE, FMEA, Failure Analysis and similar tools preferred.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong working knowledge of Access, Visio and MS Project preferred.
