PDS Tech Inc Process Control Technology Designer in Kansas City, Missouri

PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking a Process Control Technology Designer, in Kansas City, MO.

Position Summary:

Primary function:

PCT design groups provide primarily instrumentation and controls design support for existing and new plants with additional support in electrical design.

• The job purpose

o Develop technically sound and cost effective PCT designs while minimizing design expenditures.

o Develops and drafts PCT design based on input/direction of a PCT engineer or PCT lead designer

Duties and responsibilities

The primary job duties of the PCT designer are a combination of the following descriptions and deliverables.

o PCT Designers are responsible for the execution of the design and drafting for Projects or Maintenance Work orders (MWO). This work involves, but is not limited to, the following duties:

o The development of the PCT construction packages (includes design references below)

o Instrumentation and controls installation support

o Updating design documentation to the “as-build” versions

o PCT Designer duties include, but are not limited to the design, maintaining and drafting of:

Instrumentation and electrical circuit diagrams (MCCs, Distributive Control Systems, PLCs, etc)

Control System schematics

Additional design support and execution:

o Cable tray systems

o Grounding

o Lighting


o Heat trace

o Equipment Room layout

o Instrumentation and electrical circuit diagrams (MCCs, Distributive Control Systems, PLCs, etc)

o Standard installation details (includes Safety Instrumented System (SIS) installations)

o Area Classification Drawings

o As-built PCT documentation at completion of construction.

The above duties are executed via a combination of ACAD, customized Bayer Access Database and Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI).



• Specialized knowledge, NEC, ISA

• Technical background in electrical and instrument drafting and design

Skills and proficiencies:

• PCT drafting/design in chemical or related industry

• ACAD, SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)

• MicroSoft Office Suite

• Ability to read and interpret P&ID (Piping and Instrument Diagrams)

• Abilty to size cable tray, power cables for motors

• Familiarity with hazardous area installation techniques


• DeltaV - Charms I/O

• Chemical Field (in Plant) experience helpful

o Duties often require going out into the plant and assessing work required.

• Be able to interface and communicate with various team members, customers and contractors.

• Detail oriented, self-motivator
