Job Summary:
The Composites Manufacturing Engineer is the technical point of contact for the manufacturing of carbon fiber filament wet wound tubes at the Arizona facility. You will act as the liaison between Program Management, Supply Chain, Planning, and Product Engineering to ensure continued product success. The position will provide technical engineering support for new and continuing production. The manufacturing engineer will be the technical owner of the process which includes the equipment, production process, work instructions, tooling, and other facility requirements.
You will participate in setting up a new production process for a wet filament wound tube . The setup process will include selecting equipment, installing equipment, completing facility layouts, completing process layout, designing tooling, and installing / validating the process. Upon successful installation of the equipment the engineer will serve as the primary manufacturing engineer. During continued production the manufacturing engineer will participate in general manufacturing support activities, continuous improvement activates, disposition of discrepant material, authoring / improving process documentation, and training operations staff members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide hands-on support for the production of wet filament wound composite tubes
Responsible for tooling / fixture design ( SolidEdge ) and documentation
Provide training to operations team members
Evaluate existing equipment and / or systems for methods to improve performance, efficiency, reliability, and propose recommendations
Strong background in manufacturing and composites
Strong understanding and experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), and process hazard analysis (PHA)
Identify and mitigate risks associated with critical assembly operations
Technical writing including authoring process plans, standard operating procedures, test plans, and test reports
Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process
Maintain equipment and tooling through coordination with maintenance team
Identify and champion IRAD projects, continuous improvement projects, and capital investment projects
Coordinate and perform all necessary validation and / or process engineering evaluations as needed for manufacturing equipment and processes
Know, understand, and comply with company's quality and safety polices
Job Qualifications (Education/Skills/Experience):
BS/MS in Engineering discipline or Physics
10+ year’s industry-relevant experience in composites.
Must have experience in wet filament winding processes
3D solid modeling experience. (SolidEdge, Solidworks, NX) Minimum 5 years
Experience designing, installing, and qualifying production equipment including hand tools, fixtures, and automated processing equipment
Proficiency at authoring technical documents such as test plans, test reports, manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and project reports
Experience working with wet winding processing equipment including:
Maintaining automated filament winding machines
Programming automated filament winding machines
Experience with wet layup dispensing equipment, surface preparation, autoclaves, grinding, and cutting operations
Experience with MES and ERP systems
