PDS Tech Inc Hypergolic Propulsion Engineer in Mojave, California
We are looking for someone who has experience with designing/building a spacecraft hypergolic propulsion system, preferably bi-porop. Ideally, we would like to find someone who has significant experience and can help guide the propulsion team through the nuances of range safety and spacecraft pitfalls.
The scope of the position includes:
Providing engineering expertise in the area of design, development, and test of spacecraft hypergolic propulsion systems
Working on the XL-1 lunar lander for the 2022 south pole mission. Other projects may include technology development and testing programs in support of the lunar mission
Providing mentorship and guidance to less experienced technical team members
Duties & Responsibilities covering one or multiple areas:
Fluid Systems
Development of fluid component specifications and sourcing of hardware for bi-propelant hypergolic propulsion systems
Pressurization & propellant system design
Fluid schematics and CAD
Fabrication drawings and procedures
Component testing procedures
Propellant slosh/bladder modeling
Priming and water hammer analysis
Ground Support Equipment
Lander flatsat fluid system design
Ground support equipment for lander
Responsible for the procurement and fabrication of test stand equipment
Develop fabrication procedures and instructions
Provide technical guidance to fabricators and other technicians
Required Skills / Experience:
Innovative and open to helping create a Cislunar economy - passionate about space
Experience with bi-propellant hypergolic propulsion systems for spacecraft
Desired Skills/Experience:
Understands what is needed for high-quality spaceflight systems - and also what is not needed
Experience with range safety
Hypergolic engine in space engine design experience
Hypergolic engine vacuum test experience
Radiation cooled thrust chamber design and manufacturing
Fluid system analysis
Experience in the life cycle of spacecraft development: design, build, and test.
6+ years experience in aerospace engineering
3+ years in propulsion design and/or test for spacecraft or rockets
Experience with startups or new space companies
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field
Excellent communications skills
Strong work ethic and intrinsic motivation
Hands-on fabrication experience
Must be able to adapt and thrive in a dynamic highly technical environment
Will have a large impact on many programs, especially the lunar mission
