PDS Tech is seeking a Sr Electrical Engineer in Patuxent River, MD

Provide electrical engineering support to Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) programs for military aircraft/weapon systems, including planning, directing, and/or participating in aircraft and laboratory testing. Prepares procurement specification inputs, interface drawings, installation design packages, and calibration procedures to accommodate unique test requirements. Oversees systems modifications, installation, integration, and checkout functions. Performs test planning, data collection, and test data analysis. Functions entail providing support for electrical power quality testing and evaluation, including voltage and frequency transients/modulation, voltage distortion, and power interruption on various aircraft, shipboard, ground vehicle, and vendor prototype components and equipment. Functions involve applying engineering principles to modify and upgrade laboratory electrical and instrumentation systems in support of power and propulsion RDT&E programs. Projects will interface test articles with programmable power supplies and data acquisition equipment to conduct power quality tests, followed by analysis of test article responses for compliance with MIL-SPECS/MIL-STDs. In particular, candidate must have experience with Interface Standards for input power to military and aircraft contained in MIL-STD-704, military vehicles contained in MIL-STD-1275, and FAA RTCA DO-160. That experience must also include interpreting guidance for test procedures specified in MIL-HDBK-704 parts 1 through 8. Position also requires knowledge of test planning, data collection, data analysis, test report writing, and presentation of results. Further requirements include specialized knowledge and experience in the design, installation, operation, calibration, maintenance and repair of power quality test facilities, associated equipment, and their control systems. Duties may include performing other tasks for propulsion and power as directed.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) from ABET accredited university required with a minimum of 8 years’ experience supporting RDT&E to include 6 years performing functional aspects as described in the roles and responsibilities. Master’s Degree in Electrical or other Engineering related discipline a plus.

Experience: Experience working with research, development and testing with respect to requirements and characteristics of propulsion and power equipment performance. Experience must include conducting tests to generate extreme power conditions meeting specification for standardized test regimes then conducting performance tests of electronic and electrically-powered equipment after exposure to test conditions. Applying test conditions to include extremes with respect to voltage, frequency, modulation, distortion, and other characteristics. Performing tests post exposure to extreme conditions to verify operation remains within specification and the equipment continues to function reliably in-service. Experience with MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, and FAA RTCA DO-160 required. Must have demonstrated experience directing, monitoring, and/or participating in the installation, configuration, calibration, and operation of engine test systems, environmental chambers, associated instrumentation, and/or data acquisition systems used for testing propulsion and electrical power systems. The candidate should be capable of managing programs including writing proposals, developing program plans, and providing briefing material.

Applying analysis and test methods demonstrating equipment compliance to power characteristics. Ability to develop test plans, design test equipment, establish protocols and procedures specific to individual test articles following guidance provide in DoD, FAA, and other documents. Knowledge in applying programmable power sources with appropriate software and firmware needed to generate waveforms specified by test standards. Knowledge of MIL-STD-704 and the eight parts of MIL-HDBK-704 for aircraft systems. Knowledge of MIL-STD-1275 for Military Vehicles.

Equipment and Machines: Ability to operate office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required. Ability to operate power test systems to include programmable AC/DC power sources, power analyzer, test management and control systems, laboratory measuring, environmental chambers and other equipment required to provide test conditions, manage test sequences, and perform measurements of test parameters. Ability to perform or facilitate calibration and repair of laboratory testing and measurement systems.

Attendance: Monday-Friday. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important, but not critical, except for deadlines and meetings. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements that may require evening and weekend hours. Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. Independent personal transportation to work site is required. Some travel is required to support projects; this may involve airline travel. Power quality testing will typically be performed in a laboratory environment. Some test protocols may require testing in the field and potentially in a shipboard environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS

Prior DoD acquisition work experience is preferred. Familiarity with NAVAIR Propulsion and Power Laboratories and related competencies also preferred.
