PDS Tech Inc Water Quality Technician in Riverside, New Jersey

This position is a temporary work assignment typically working less than 40 hours/week. This position is intended to provide prospective student an opportunity to learn about water quality, water treatment, safe drinking water and environmental regulatory compliance and management.

Daily Operational activities to be performed include, but are not limited to:

• Perform and/or assist with the functional activities for Water Quality and Environmental Management at the NJ American Water Treatment Plant.

• Perform frequent water quality monitoring and reporting to facilitate treatment and ensure regulatory compliance.

• Provide laboratory services, including sample collection and basic/advanced WQ analysis to facilitate source water management, treatment process monitoring and drinking water compliance

• Assist with Environmental permitting, auditing and project planning for all operational activities, including water, waste water, clean air act, chemical risk management, source water protection and stewardship.

• Perform analysis and troubleshooting of the environmental management system and problem solving needed to ensure regulatory compliance and sustainable operations.

• Assist in all phases of water operations including reservoir management, production, transmission and distribution, customer service, environmental compliance and occupational safety and health, as required and as instructed.

• The WQ/Env Intern may be assigned to work all or a portion of scheduled hours at various production facilities NJ.

Laboratory activities to be performed include, but are not limited to:

• Laboratory sampling and analysis conducted as needed to confirm accuracy of process control, support research and production project activities, facilitate operations and maintenance and demonstrate compliance

• Water sampling for pH, temperature, conductivity, turbidity, metals, chlorine residual coliforms and other parameters as needed to.

• Field sampling and inspection related to source water management, water quality and environmental compliance


Other focus projects and assignments as directed


• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, specifically excel and word

• Able to perform mathematical and statistical calculations

• Problem solving

• Apply scientific methods and techniques, including basic laboratory skills

• Data collection, interpretation, and logging

• Report writing and presentation skills

• Mechanical aptitude


Must have understanding of:

• Basic chemistry including performing manual testing and interpretation of results

• Statistics to gather and tabulate data for reports

• Working knowledge of hydraulic, chemical, and electrical equipment and processes

• Basic safety dealing with chemical handling and operating equipment

Experience: College level classes in chemistry and/or engineering
