PDS Tech Inc. is seeking a Controls Engineer, in San Jose, CA.
Performing research, design, & development in such areas as system modelling & analysis, data acquisition & evaluation, closed loop multi-order servo systems as well as other general & advanced controls engineering design & development functions.
Applies research to the planning, design, development & testing of control laws & control systems for use in space & military applications.
Is able to develop design solutions to meet difficult performance requirements.
Generates advanced Matlab & Simulink models of existing & proposed plants & tunes & analyzes those plants.
Reviews & critiques designs created by peers and/or Jr. engineers.
Recognizes the unique design requirements such as safety & reliability architectures associated w/ manned space & military applications.
Develops detailed specifications from high level design goals & performs analysis of the hardware, system environment & design goals to enable selection and implementation of the desired control system topology.
Selects, designs and implements complex control systems.
Provides detailed performance results of the implementation including response capability & stability in both time & frequency domains.
Provides design recommendations for actuators, thrusters, valves, electronics, & test equipment to the larger engineering team.
Demonstrated ability to develop complex Simulink plant & control models.
Strong skillsets in programming in C / C++.
Strong experience w/ either National Instruments Labview or dSpace programming.
Desired ability to utilize electrical CAD tools such as Mentor System Vision & Pspice for circuit performance predictions in aid of controls development.
Define development test plans and methods to ensure a robust design is achieved & validates the design against customer, internal & regulatory/govt requirements.
Excellent skills in electro-mechanical systems control design using model based control law development with Matlab, Simulink, & related tools of Simscape & its various modules.
This includes overall control system architecture design, including developing requirements for current, velocity & position loop update rates, & conducting FMECA at the system level.
Presentation of assigned work at program technical reviews, proposals, or other technical meetings.
Possess strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a development team to understand system level interdependencies that impact circuit requirements & design constraints.
Is proficient & delegating work to Jr. engineers & overseeing tasks for completeness & quality.
Prefer an understanding of Six Sigma disciplines, Lean Engineering & other appropriate engineering skillsets.
Education & Experience:
Requires a BS degree in Mechanical (w/ a controls specialization), Electrical (with a controls specialization), or Controls Engineering from an accredited college w/ a minimum of 10 yrs professional experience; or 7 yrs professional experience w/ a related Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering & 5 years.
Experience in the design, development, & validation of control systems.
Experience using Matlab & Simulink Applications is required.
Experience working within a model based develop environment is a plus.
Experience working w/ electromechanical systems & hypersonic engines is a plus.
